Works to Talbot Campus

As part of the on-going improvements to Talbot Campus, the footpath between the new academic building construction site and Weymouth House/Christchurch Annex will close for repaving from Monday 13 July for 8 weeks.

To enable the works, several car parking bays and a motorcycle bay in front of Christchurch House will be unavailable throughout the eight weeks. Alternative motorcycle parking can be found at the rear of Weymouth House.

For the duration of the works a pedestrian diversion route around the back of Weymouth House and Christchurch House Annex will be in place. Please take a look at the map to see which route you will need to take whilst the work is carried out.

Should you have any queries please contact Estates Project Manager Rob Lipcar.

Be warned – fake parking permits

bu-logoThere have recently been some instances of students using fake parking permits to park on campus.

Please be warned that using fake parking permits is illegal, and any future occurrences will result in disciplinary action.

Official parking permits are required for parking at Talbot Campus. For information on how to obtain a BU parking permit please visit the Student Portal.

New Academic Building – Parking on Talbot Campus from 8 August

Work on BU’s flagship New Academic Building will be starting soon on Talbot Campus. The building, due to open in summer 2016, will host academic and support facilities, including seminar rooms, lecture theatres, break out space and catering facilities.

The building demonstrates our commitment to enhancing our Estate and creating a modern facility to benefit BU’s community for years to come.

For the duration of the construction works, some of your usual routes around campus will be affected:

  • From Monday 11 August, car park A (next to Weymouth House and the Sir Michael Cobham Library, now showing as building 24 on the map) will be closed and fencing will surround this area. Due to this closure, vehicles cannot be left in the car park from the evening of Friday 8 August.
  • From this date, students should use all other car parks – B to G and the Student Village. A traffic light system will be put in place from 11 August to help with the flow of traffic on campus. Students are asked to follow the control measures and signage around the area to help keep traffic moving.
  • The new car park H, built just to the south of the campus to replace all of the parking spaces lost, will open on Monday 1 September. Barrier controlled entry to car park H is necessary and will commence from 1 September. Barrier controlled entry to car parks B to E will be introduced in mid-September. Students who have not yet had their BU Smart card arranged should do so as soon as possible by contacting the Reception Team at Poole House or the Executive Business Centre.

Some disruption to vehicle movement on Talbot Campus is inevitable and all students should plan extra journey time. For safety reasons all instructions, including those from the parking attendants, should be followed. Where possible, you may wish to try alternative, sustainable modes of transport in line with the current Travel Plan.

If you require more information on how the construction works will affect Talbot Campus parking, please email parkingenquiries@bournemouth.ac.uk. For any other queries about the works for the Academic Building, please contact the Project Manager, Rob Lipcar.
