The tenth Annual Symposium for the Centre of Postgraduate Medical Research and Education (CoPMRE), attended by over 80 healthcare professionals from near and far, explored innovations in medical research and education.
The day-long symposium took place at BU’s Executive Business Centre and was aimed at keeping clinicians and academics informed of the latest local medical developments.
Professor Paul Thompson, Consultant Rheumatologist and Director of CoPMRE, said: “Today is about linking local NHS professionals with Bournemouth University academics to find novel ways of improving health that can be widely disseminated throughout the NHS and healthcare sector – for example, a diabetologist teaming up with a computer animation expert at BU and designing an app that can improve patient monitoring and education.”
Dr Tim Battcock, Consultant Physician in the Department of Medicine for the Elderly at Poole Hospital and Medical Education lead at BU, chaired the afternoon sessions exploring old and new ways of educating medical students, junior doctors and maintaining high standards of care in consultants and GPs.
Collaborations between BU and with the new ‘Health Education Wessex’ and Southampton University were also discussed.
