As part of the celebrations to mark the official opening of the Bournemouth University International College, a special masterclass will be held with the former President, Publisher and Chairman of the Washington Post, Don Graham, in conversation with Stephen Jukes, Dean of the Faculty of Media & Communication at BU.

The event, titled ‘Is there still a place for heroes in journalism and business today?’ will be held on Thursday 15 October, 2pm to 3pm, at Bournemouth University International College and entry is free to staff, students and members of the public.

Don Graham was a Washington Post news room reporter in the early 1970s, just as the Watergate scandal was unfolding with its leaks, ‘deep throat’ revelations, and resignations and indictments at the highest levels of US Government.  The Post brought Watergate to the attention of millions across America and the rest of the world, and consequently played a key role in increasing the political repercussions of Watergate activities. In those days, reporters and editors frequently put their jobs on the line in deciding how to cover the story: it was truly a time for heroes in journalism.

Forty five years later, citizens are no longer passive consumers of news stories, but now contribute as well as consume.

Join Mr Graham and Professor Jukes as they discuss this tumultuous history and the exciting future in the world of news media.
