CIPPM Symposium

Friday, 11 September 2015 from 09:30 to 18:00 in The Executive Business Centre

Recent developments in international trade have rekindled the debate on Geographical Indications (GIs). In this context, the EU is facing some difficult policy choices on how to protect the names of those products which have a link with a specific geographic place.

The 2015 CIPPM symposium aims at understanding the theoretical and practical implications of the developments of EU legislation in the field.

What are the challenges and opportunities following the proposed extension of GI protection to non-agricultural products in the EU? How would this extension affect the existing PDO/PGI schemes for agricultural products, wines and spirit drinks? What would be the impact of the proposed changes on the GI discourse in Europe? Are there any other requests for legislative amendments?

The event will bring together researchers, GI producers, UK and European institutions and policy makers to debate key issues for the prospects of GI legislation in the EU.

The event is free to attend, however spaces are limited and registration is required.
