Rehan Zia will be presenting this exhibition in the Atrium Art Gallery as part of his BU PhD research which is based on maximising tonal range in landscape photographs.
By using variable shutter speeds to capture a series of photographs at evenly spaced exposure intervals, ranging from the completely underexposed to the completely overexposed, Rehan creates tone-mapped images which blend all of these exposures together to maximise the dynamic range in the image. This tone-mapped image can display a much larger set of tonal values that goes beyond what the human eye can see.
Landscape images created by Rehan using the multiple exposure blending techniques are on display. These include local images of the Purbeck coast, Kimmeridge Bay and Corfe Castle, as well as images from the Isle of Skye, Scotland.
