A War Inside my Body – Battling Childhood Trauma: 27 February

Friday, 27 February 2015 from 13:00 to 14:00 in BG14, Bournemouth House

About the event

Part of Eating Disorder Week; facilitated by Sarah Clark, Support Worker and Occupational Therapy student at BU, this session will:

  • Provide a personal account of how childhood trauma was one of the contributing factors to me developing anorexia, and the challenges it held in my journey of recovery.
  • Give hope that despite childhood trauma you can lead a fulfilling life. Propose to talk about how I never had a proper relationship before I met my husband at the age of 25, and the challenges that this brought about.
  • Challenge views that it’s something that should be talked about more, and it’s something that is often not spoken about in assessments.
  • The link to body image, and how gaining weight for me made memories resurface, how anorexia kept me safe and kept me protected.
  • How exercise helped me attain a more healthy body weight.
