Dr Lauren Kita, a Psychologist and Yoga / Mindfulness Therapist leads the next 14:Live talk from 2-3pm in Poole House Refectory. Focusing on the mind-body responses to stress and how to manage this.

When we experience stress our brain responds by putting our body into a state of hyperalertness, also known as the ‘fight or flight’ response. This triggers a cascade of stress hormones into our system which produces classic symptoms of anxiety. This is an evolutionary mechanism that helps us to avoid potential dangers. Yet in our modern world, the stressors that we experiences are usually less to do with life or death situations, and more to do with everyday pressures and worries; however this same response occurs.

Chronic stress has deleterious effects, impacting almost every physical and mental health condition. High levels of stress can also make it difficult for us to perform under high pressure situations, such as exams. In this talk we will discuss the science behind the mind-body connection, and you will be introduced to simple techniques (such as mindfulness and breathing exercises) that can help you to better manage your stress.
